Cinema Nostalgia is track number 3 on the studio album Piano Stories III by Joe Hisaishi. He is most well known for his film scores in Studio Ghibli films, but he has also composed a sizeable amount of concert works as well.

During my time as a student at Appalachian State University, I collaborated in the theatre department’s production of William Shakespeare’s play “Love’s Labours Lost”. The original script calls for three songs to be sung during the performance, though their original forms are lost to time. So the director, Derek Gagnier, contacted me to work on the production as a sound designer and composer. This led to the composition of three songs plus some incidental music. Since the overall vision of this particular production was to set it in a roaring 20s era, jazz, Latin, and ballroom music were a huge influence on the music. A few years later, I revisited the music and arranged it into this version for saxophone quartet.
